Football History is an independent website about the story of the game: the players who defined eras, the clubs that built traditions, the World Cup tournaments that people still talk about, and the smaller stories that rarely get told. We write for football fans in Nigeria and around the world who want to understand not just what happened, but why it mattered.
Why we started Football History
Football is full of famous names and famous goals, but much of what is written online is short, repeated from site to site, or missing context. We wanted to create a place where a reader could finish an article and feel they had learned something properly: how a team really played, what a tournament meant at the time, or why one player is still remembered decades later.
who you are
I’m Nwali Chinedu Nerus, a football fan from Nigeria. I started playing football in primary school and fell in love with the game straight away. I later joined a community football club, and my passion for football has never left me. I started Football History to share the stories of the players, clubs and tournaments that I admire, and to write about them in a clear and accurate way for other fans.

Our editorial standards
We want you to be able to trust what you read here. These are the standards we follow when writing and updating articles.
- Accuracy first. We check dates, scores, scorers and statistics against more than one reliable source, such as official tournament records, club archives and established football statistics databases.
- Original writing. Articles are written for this site. We do not copy text from other websites, and we explain events in our own words.
- Honest about uncertainty. Football history is full of stories that are told in different ways. Where a detail is disputed or cannot be verified, we say so instead of presenting it as fact.
- Fair and respectful. We write about real people, some of whom are still living. We avoid rumours, unverified allegations and personal attacks.
- Credit where due. We name our sources in each article and credit images where we use them.
Corrections and updates
Mistakes happen, especially with historical details that are recorded differently in different places. If you find an error, please tell us through our Contact page. We will check it and correct the article as soon as we can. Each article shows when it was last reviewed so you know how current it is.
