The difference comes from the way historical international matches are counted by different statistical sources, but the 37-goal record is consistent.
His Nigeria career included several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, the 1988 and 1990 finals, the 1992 tournament and the victorious 1994 edition. He was also part of Nigeria's first World Cup team in 1994 and returned for the 1998 World Cup in France.
