Known originally as Chabab Riadhi de Belcourt, the club quickly became a major force in Algerian football. CR Belouizdad won four league championships during its first decade and became one of the dominant teams of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its honours have since grown to 10 Algerian league titles, nine Algerian Cups, two Algerian Super Cups, one Algerian League Cup and three Maghreb Champions Cup titles.
The club's most remarkable modern period came between 2019 and 2023, when CR Belouizdad won four consecutive Algerian league championships. It also reached the latter stages of African competitions several times, although it has yet to win a major CAF club trophy.

Formation in 1962
CR Belouizdad was created on 15 July 1962, only days after Algeria's independence. The new club brought together two teams from Belcourt, Widad Riadhi de Belcourt and Club Athlétique de Belcourt.
The club entered the first Algerian championship competition in the 1962-63 season. CR Belcourt finished third in the Critérium Honneur and immediately established itself among the leading clubs in the new national football system.
One year later, the team finished second before winning its first national championship in 1964-65.
1964-65: First Algerian championship
CR Belcourt won its first national title in 1964-65. The team played 30 matches, winning 19, drawing four and losing seven. It scored 70 goals and conceded 25.
Hassan Achour was the club's leading scorer with 18 goals, while the championship confirmed that CRB was already becoming one of the most important clubs in Algerian football.
1965-66: League and Cup double
The following season brought another championship. CR Belcourt won 16 of 30 league matches, drew 10 and lost four, scoring 67 goals.
The club also won the Algerian Cup, defeating RC Kouba in the final. Hacène Lalmas was the leading scorer with 18 league goals.
The double marked the beginning of an extraordinary period in the club's history.
The golden era of the late 1960s
After finishing third in both 1966-67 and 1967-68, CR Belcourt returned to the top in 1968-69. The team won 13 of 22 matches and captured another league championship.
That season also produced another Algerian Cup triumph. CR Belcourt defeated USM Alger in a replay after the first final ended 1-1, winning the replay 5-3.
1969-70: The historic treble
The 1969-70 season remains one of the greatest campaigns in CR Belouizdad history. The club won the Algerian championship, Algerian Cup and Maghreb Champions Cup.
In the league, CRB won 13, drew eight and lost only one of 22 matches. The team scored 40 goals and conceded just 17.
CRB also defeated USM Alger 4-1 in the replay of the Algerian Cup final after the first match finished 1-1.
On the regional stage, the club won the Maghreb Champions Cup, establishing itself as one of North Africa's strongest teams.
1970-72 and the Maghreb success
CRB remained competitive after the 1969-70 treble. It finished second in the league in 1971-72 and continued to perform strongly in regional competitions.
The club won the Maghreb Champions Cup three consecutive times in 1970, 1971 and 1972. This remains one of the most important achievements in the club's international history.
1978 Algerian Cup
CR Belcourt added another Algerian Cup in 1977-78. The final against USM Alger ended 0-0 before CRB won the penalty shootout.
The victory gave the club its fifth Algerian Cup and added another major trophy to a period in which it was regularly competing near the top of the national championship.
Late 1970s and 1980s
CRB remained in Algeria's top division throughout the 1980s, although the club no longer dominated the championship in the way it had during the 1960s and early 1970s.
The team finished second in 1979-80 and reached several strong league positions during the decade. The most difficult season came in 1987-88, when CRB finished 16th and entered the relegation play-off.
The following season was spent in Division 2. CRB finished second in 1988-89 with 17 wins, 10 draws and five defeats, earning promotion back to the top flight.
Return to the top flight
CRB returned to Division 1 for the 1989-90 season and finished eighth. The club remained in the top division throughout the 1990s, although the next league championship did not arrive until the end of the decade.
In 1994, the club adopted the name Chabab Riadhi de Belouizdad following the official change from Belcourt to Belouizdad.
1994-95 Algerian Cup
CR Belouizdad won the Algerian Cup in 1994-95. It was the club's sixth Cup triumph and ended a long wait for another major national trophy.
The club also won the Algerian Super Cup in 1995, adding another trophy to its collection.
1995-96 African Cup Winners' Cup
CRB reached the semi-finals of the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1996. This remains one of the club's best performances in African competition.
The continental campaign gave CRB a place among the more experienced Algerian clubs in African football and preceded another successful domestic period.
1999-2001: Back-to-back championships
After several seasons without a league title, CR Belouizdad returned to the top in 1999-2000.
The club won 14 of 22 league matches, drew five and lost three, scoring 41 goals and conceding 21. CRB also won the Algerian League Cup during the same season.
The following campaign brought another championship. In 2000-01, CRB won 18 of 30 matches, drew eight and lost four, finishing with 62 points.
These two championships made CRB one of the dominant Algerian clubs at the beginning of the new millennium.
2001-2008: Mixed fortunes
CRB remained in Division 1 during the first half of the 2000s, although its league position declined after the championship years.
The club finished fourth in 2001-02, fifth in 2002-03 and then 13th in both 2003-04 and 2004-05. It recovered to seventh in 2005-06 and tenth in 2006-07.
The 2007-08 season also ended in tenth place, with eight wins, 14 draws and eight defeats.
2008-09: Another Algerian Cup
CR Belouizdad won the Algerian Cup again in 2008-09. The club had a strong league season as well, finishing fourth after winning 15 of 32 matches.
The Cup victory was the seventh Algerian Cup in the club's history and demonstrated that CRB remained capable of challenging for major trophies even during periods when it was not winning the league.
Islam Slimani and the 2010s
One of the notable players to emerge from CRB during the late 2000s and early 2010s was Islam Slimani. He became the club's leading scorer in the 2009-10 season with 11 league goals before moving into European football and becoming a major figure for the Algeria national team.
CRB finished fifth in 2010-11 and fourth in 2011-12. The club remained competitive but could not challenge consistently for the championship.
2016-17 Algerian Cup
CRB won the Algerian Cup again in 2016-17. It was the club's eighth Cup title at the time and another major success after a period of inconsistent league results.
The team finished sixth in the league that season, winning 12, drawing seven and losing 11.
2017-18: A difficult season
The 2017-18 league campaign was one of the club's weaker recent seasons. CRB finished 12th after winning seven, drawing 15 and losing eight.
The club's large number of draws helped it avoid relegation, while its performance in the CAF Confederation Cup ended in the preliminary round.
2018-19: Algerian Cup success
CR Belouizdad finished eighth in Ligue 1 in 2018-19 but won the Algerian Cup.
The Cup victory was the club's ninth and, for several years, gave CRB the record for the most Algerian Cup victories. The club would later retain nine Cup titles even as other clubs challenged the record.
2019-20: The championship drought ends
The 2019-20 season began a remarkable new period in CR Belouizdad history.
CRB was leading the Ligue 1 table when the season was stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The club was awarded the championship after the competition was ended, giving it its seventh league title at the time.
Before the season was stopped, CRB had played 21 matches, winning 11, drawing seven and losing three. The team scored 30 goals and conceded 16.
Four consecutive league titles
CR Belouizdad followed the 2019-20 championship with three more titles.
| Season | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses | Goals | Points | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019-20 | 21 | 11 | 7 | 3 | 30-16 | 40 | Champions |
| 2020-21 | 38 | 22 | 13 | 3 | 69-27 | 79 | Champions |

| 2022-23 | 30 | 18 | 10 | 2 | 44-21 | 64 | Champions |
The four consecutive championships represented a new record for CRB and one of the most dominant runs by an Algerian club in the modern era. The 2022-23 championship was the club's tenth national league title.
2020-21: Double success
CRB won the 2020-21 league championship and also won the Algerian Super Cup.
The team played 38 league matches, winning 22, drawing 13 and losing only three. It scored 69 goals and conceded 27.
The season also marked another strong African campaign, with CRB reaching the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
2021-22: Third straight title
CRB won its third consecutive championship in 2021-22. The team recorded 21 wins, seven draws and six defeats from 34 matches.
The club again reached the CAF Champions League quarter-finals, establishing itself as a regular presence among Africa's leading clubs.
2022-23: Fourth straight championship
In 2022-23, CRB completed the four-title sequence. The team won 18 of 30 matches, drew 10 and lost only twice.
With 64 points, CRB finished top of the league and claimed its tenth Algerian championship.
The club also reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.
2023-24: Runners-up and Algerian Cup winners
CRB's run of league titles ended in 2023-24 when MC Alger won the championship. Belouizdad finished second with 53 points from 30 matches, recording 15 wins, eight draws and seven defeats.
CRB did, however, win the Algerian Cup. In the final, the club defeated MC Alger 1-0 through a Chouaib Keddad goal.
The Cup was CRB's ninth Algerian Cup title.
2024-25: Third in Ligue 1
CR Belouizdad finished third in the 2024-25 Algerian Ligue 1 season.
The club recorded 15 wins, 10 draws and five defeats from 30 matches. It scored 44 goals and conceded 21, finishing with 55 points.
CRB also reached the Algerian Cup final but lost 2-0 to USM Alger on 5 July 2025. The defeat ended CRB's defence of the trophy.
In the Algerian Super Cup, CRB also finished as runners-up after MC Alger won on penalties following a 2-2 draw.
2025-26: Third in Algeria and African semi-final
CR Belouizdad finished third again in the 2025-26 Ligue 1 season. The club won 14, drew 11 and lost five of its 30 matches, scoring 47 goals and conceding 24.
CRB finished with 53 points, 12 points behind champions MC Alger and two behind runners-up JS Saoura. The season confirmed the club's continued position among Algeria's leading teams.
CRB also reached the Algerian Cup final for a second consecutive season. In the 2026 final, USM Alger defeated Belouizdad 2-1, meaning CRB finished as Cup runners-up again.
2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup
After several seasons of Champions League football, CRB competed in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2025-26.
The club reached the semi-finals, its best-ever result in the Confederation Cup. CRB faced Egyptian club Zamalek in the semi-final and lost the tie 1-0 on aggregate after a 1-0 defeat in Algiers followed by a goalless draw in Cairo.
The run gave CRB another continental semi-final appearance after the club had previously reached the semi-finals of the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1996.

Club records and notable figures
CR Belouizdad has produced several important Algerian players, particularly during its strongest domestic periods. Hacène Lalmas was one of the defining figures of the club's golden era, while Islam Slimani became one of the most prominent modern players to emerge from CRB.
According to the club's historical statistics, Slimani is among CRB's leading scorers in the modern era, with 44 goals across league, Cup and continental competitions recorded in the available club statistics.
The club has also been one of Algeria's most consistent top-flight teams. CRB has never dropped below the second level of Algerian football since entering the national league system.
Rivalries
CR Belouizdad's most prominent rivalry is with USM Alger. The two Algiers clubs have met repeatedly in important Algerian Cup matches, including several finals.
CRB defeated USM Alger in the 1969, 1970 and 1978 Cup finals. USM Alger later won against CRB in the 1988, 2003, 2025 and 2026 finals, making the fixture one of the most significant rivalries in Algerian football.
CRB also has major city rivalries with MC Alger and NA Hussein Dey.
Place in Algerian football
CR Belouizdad's history stretches across every major era of Algerian football since independence. The club won championships during the 1960s, returned to the top again around the turn of the millennium and then produced its most dominant modern run with four consecutive titles from 2019-20 through 2022-23.
Its nine Algerian Cup victories, ten league championships and three Maghreb Champions Cup titles make CRB one of the country's most decorated clubs.
The club's modern success has also translated into regular African competition. Its repeated CAF Champions League appearances and the 2025-26 Confederation Cup semi-final demonstrate that CRB remains one of Algeria's major representatives on the continental stage.
